Breakfast for our detox will be protein shakes or eggs. I find the shakes so much easier to make on work days because I can prep them the night before. I put all of the ingredients except for the liquid in a mason jar, cover, and put in the fridge. Then in the morning all I have to do is add the liquid and ice, blend, and go! Feel free to play with the ingredients a little. Try strawberries instead of blueberries or cashew butter instead of almond butter. Mix it up and find what you like best.
Dr Hyman’s Whole Food Protein Shake
½ cup frozen blueberries
½ cup frozen cranberries
¼ organic lemon with rind(optional)
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon chai seeds
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
2 raw walnuts
2 raw brazil nuts
½ tablespoon extra virgin coconut butter
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
½ cup ice
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth. You can also add all ingredients to a widemouthed quart-size Mason jar and use a hand-held immersion blender and drink it right from the jar. Be sure to add enough water so that the smoothie is drinkable but still thick (total liquid should be an inch or two above the other ingredients before blending). You can also make it thicker and eat it with a spoon.
NOTE: To activate the enzymes in the seeds and nuts in any smoothie recipe for easier digestion, you can soak them ahead of time. Fill a bowl with enough water to cover the seeds or nuts and soak for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight if time permits.
